Description:A light weight, tightly woven, worsted wool in a mature rose-pink color.
Intended Use: It was given to me (thanks Mom!) specifically for the cote (kirtle) of my Garb Quest.
In the long run, there won't be anything particularly unique or overly special about the cote this wool will become, but the beautiful color alone will no doubt make it a stand-out item. Other than that, it will be a long-sleeved cote suitable to wear on its own, but specifically created to go under the navy blue wool surcote.
The color itself caught my eye one day when I was "window shopping" on Wm. Booth's website. Eventually, I requested a swatch, and as soon as I took it out of the envelope, I knew I had to have it! The weight is perfect- almost the same as a jersey knit, and it is very smooth (though not shiny). This is the ideal cloth for a year-round wool.
It didn't really occur to me until a few days later that the color also matched the underdress on a few of the Christine de Pisan depictions, which I was using as inspiration for my Garb Quest. The match was coincidental, but the color combination is so feminine and medieval, I'm not even considering changing either color. I also think that this pink will go very well with the dark colored wool I plan to make a kirtle out of.
